Alexander Isak Burglars Instructed to Repay Just £1 Per Person from £1.2m Thefts

Members of an Italy-based clan of burglars who took more than £1.2m valued of goods, including from former Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, have been mandated to return only £1 per person.

Brothers Valentino and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her child Charlie travelled to the northeastern of the UK to burgle three houses in spring 2024.

The group of four were jailed for between a decade or less in 2025.

At a proceeds of crime proceeding at the court, Jela and the Nikolov brothers were ordered to pay back £1 per person while Charlie must hand over over a thousand pounds.

Particulars of the Burglaries

The judge was told the group arrived by ferry in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2024 and employed a RV as their "headquarters", which they parked at Scotch Corner and Durham rest stops while utilizing another car to scout out targets and execute thefts.

On March 31 they stole over one million pounds of items such as high-end fashion, handbags, jewelry and a CBE medal from a residence on a street in Jesmond, while the residents were on holiday.

The next evening, the crew entered a house on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, and took designer handbags, valuables and shoes valued at over one hundred thousand pounds.

Following surveillance of Newcastle United's training ground for two days, they then acted at the home of Swedish player Mr Isak in Darras Hall on 4 April, taking ten thousand pounds in money, £68,000 worth of jewelry and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound Audi RS6.

The group, who were portrayed by prosecutors as professional itinerant thieves, wore gloves and masks, switched their phones on silent as they approached their objectives and attached a license plate, which had been stolen from a auto shop in a town, on to their car with rubber straps.

They were arrested in the Birmingham on 13 April.

Legal Hearings and Sentencing

Valentino had denied conspiracy to burglary but was convicted by jurors, while his family members had all submitted guilty pleas to the identical accusation.

At the proceeds of crime hearing, prosecutor Daniel Cordey said each of the defendants had profited from their crimes to the amount of over £1.2 million, which was based on what the affected parties said they had lost.

But Charlie Jovanovic was the only one deemed to have any funds that could be "recovered", namely over a thousand pounds which had previously been confiscated by police, the judge heard, with two weeks to be spent in jail if he failed to pay.

The other three had no assets or property so were directed to make a token amount of £1 per person, with one week in prison the consequence if the money was not paid.

The judge Spragg said if they were discovered with property in the future, "such as driving around Italy in a fast car or possessing a property", prosecutors could seek further action to "satisfy the amount outstanding".
